Warming Spiced Almond Milk - Vata Dosha Approved!

When I first started learning about energetics and constitutions...it was overwhelming. I mean there are ways to eat, herbs to take or avoid, lifestyle options....you can tailor everything to fit your specific constitution. When you do, its amazing how much better you feel and how much quicker you heal.

In Ayurvedic medicine, I am a hardcore Vata dosha. This also lines up with my traditional western herbalism constitution of cold/dry. On tongue reading with TCM, I am dry with deficient qi and yang. I love how they line up!

Anyways...one evening while desiring a drink besides tea or water...and my vice Dr Pepper...I remembered that almonds are a well loved food in Ayurveda. I keep unsweetened Vanilla almond milk in the fridge (for oatmeal) and decided to pop it on the stove with some spices for a delicious warming evening "milk"

Warming Spiced Almond Milk

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg powder
  • 1 teaspoon Honey or organic sugar.

To Make:

Add spices to almond milk in a pan (if using honey, wait until pulled from heat). Warm milk on stove on a low-medium heat setting for about 5-10 minutes, stirring with a whisk mix in the spices as much as possible. Remove from heat. If using honey, add now and stir until dissolved.

Pour into your cup and enjoy.

Alternatively, you can steep whole cinnamon sticks and nutmegs in the milk and then strain after 15 minutes.


This makes a fantastic evening drink that you may find helps lull you off to dreamland...you know how they say a warm glass of milks help you sleep!
